How To Calibrate an iCharger

Instructions on how to calibrate the voltage reading of an iCharger. All electronic devices wonder with time. This article takes you through the steps of re-calibrating your iCharger.

How to check your iCharger Voltage Calibration

Your iCharger is calibrated in the factory before it is shipped. If you find there is need for calibration, you can calibrate your iCharger using the steps covered in this article.
All electronic devices wander over time and it is important to make sure that your icharger is still working with accurate voltage. iCharger uses its voltage reading for all aspects of its charging and discharging functions.
 

The simplest method is to use two 3s (11.1v) lipo batteries. By plugging both their balance leads into a series board (thus creating a 6s 22.2v battery), we are able to note the voltage of each cell. By swapping the order of the balance leads and noting the voltage again, we can compare the two readings to see if there is any variance in voltage. This is a very quick and effective way to see if your iCharger is calibrated correctly.
 

We suggest you use 3s packs, as a total of 6 cells (when combined) will create greater accuracy.

Calibrate Your iCharger

Please note these instructions are suitable for all iCharger models, but only for firmware version 3.09 or higher.

To calibrate your iCharger you will need:
 

 

  1. A 4½ digital multimeter or the most accurate voltmeter available. It is essential that you are 100% sure that the multimeter is accurate, as this multimeters reading is what your iCharger will be calibrated to.

  2. A power source providing a stable input voltage.

  3. A battery pack with measured cell voltage.
     

iCharger Calibration Steps
 

  1. While holding buttons, power on your iCharger. Immediately release the buttons when you hear 3 beeps from the charger.

  2. Connect the battery to the iCharger main charge port and balance port.

  3. Hold the button for 3 seconds to access the monitor mode screen. On this screen you can calibrate input and output voltages, as well as internal and external temperature.

  4. Hold the button for 3 seconds to enter the calibration mode, then press the button to navigate to the value you wish to calibrate. The value you select will blink, alternating between a display of the current reading and the amount of calibration adjustment.

  5. Adjust the calibration amount with or buttons to match the value with the correct voltage / temperature.

  6. When all values are calibrated correctly, press to quit from calibration mode.

  7. To calibrate individual cell voltages, press button to display the cell screen. If necessary, press the button again to cycle through the cells until the cell you would like to calibrate is displayed.

  8. Hold button for 3 seconds to enter calibration mode. The cell voltages will begin to blink, alternating between a display of the voltage value and the amount of calibration adjustment.

  9. Adjust the calibration value with the or buttons as needed to match the displayed voltage to the voltage on your multimeter, then press to apply the change.

  10. When all cells are calibrated correctly, press to quit from the calibration mode.


Warning

When re calibrating your iCharger, you must have an accurate measurement of the voltage to calibrate to.
Incorrect iCharger voltage calibration will lead to the iCharger incorrectly reading battery voltages during charge cycles. This will damage the battery and could also lead to serious danger. The iCharger manufacturer, distributer and retailer and all its representatives are not responsible for any damage or injury caused by user error in calibration.
 

Firmware version 3.09 and 3.10 have bugs that affect the "Vo" calibration. Version 3.11 and higher have resolved these issues. We always recommend upgrading your iCharger to the latest firmware version available.
